The Rescuers (1977)

A few weeks back Marci was having trouble getting to sleep. So we tried watching stuff to get her to sleep but nothing worked until we discovered The Rescuers. The music is really mellow, and the background paintings and drawings were pretty awesome.

BTW, the Rescuers Down Under really sucks. It's weird to have something set in Australia with no Australian accents. Actually, the first 10 minutes there's a lot of wrong things going on. That and the character drawings weren't so sweet.

You can see the Rescuers online here. Or you can be like me and have your mom buy it for you for Christmas.

Dogs In School

Dogs in School
A year ago I donated a piece to this show. At the time the guy setting it up didn't have a venue and didn't have a date set for it so yeah. Then now he does, and there's a website with all the information. If you're in Portland, Oregon, you should stop by to see the show. There's a list of other artists looks pretty sweet.

Yeah, I don't really draw dogs. To tell you the truth, I kind of think all dogs are dumb. And not in a "I like cats more kind of way", it's more of a, I think all dogs are kind of dumb. But yeah. Yeah.

November seems so far away.

It feels like they always keep on pushing it back.

Skull

We're traveling east so I went out to buy gloves and I somehow came back with this as well. The gloves were $10, and I went half on this with Marci. It came in Purple, but I repainted it in black. I'm kind of tempted to get another so I can paint it with 2D lines.

Yeah, I probably should be painting.

Wes Anderson's Acceptance Speach

I thought this video was pretty sweet. Marci and I went to go see The Fantastic Mr. Fox on New Years Eve and of course loved it. The Cartoon Art Museum in the City was exhibiting sets and dolls from the movie up until late January, so we went and saw those there. We didn't take any photos cause they were behind glass, but the dolls were pretty impressive, and were way huger than I thought they would be.

We also went two blocks down to see the Maurice Sendak exhibition at the Contemporary Jewish Museum. That was pretty awesome as well. I believe there's a Maurice Sendak collection in Philadelphia, and it was one of those places I was thinking about probably hitting up if I ever made way out east, but yeah. I don't think I need to now.

Juxtapoz Dark Arts

dark arts cover
Marci got her copies of Juxtapoz Dark Arts. She's on the cover, and the book looks pretty amazing. You can pretty much pick it up at any book store or here online.

Food Journal

Food Journal 17
Thursday, December 31st - Monday, January 11th.
Of Note:
1. New Years Eve- Marci and I went to go see The Fantastic Mr. Fox at the Mall. We ate at Zhao's Noodle House, which actually wasn't all that bad for being mall food.
2. Taqueria Monte Cristo- We used to go to this place a lot cause it was open late when we first were going out. So it's been about 5 or 6 years since we've last ate here. It was pretty good. I got a chorizo and potato burrito.
3. Hoppin' John- We had people over for movie night (Evil Dead) and served Hoppin' John. It's traditionally a New Years day dish, but we ate it on the 5th.
4. I got a Roy Rogers at Ben & Nick's for Alana's going away. It's basically a cherry coke. I'm taking a break from caffeine, and it was my first coke in a while. I haven't had a cup of coffee or a coffee drink in a really long time. It's kind of weird. It takes me a while to get up, but I don't have a job, so it's not like it really matters. I don't really get all that tired during the day, though, and I used to take a mid-day nap but I don't do that as much anymore.
5. Egg in the Basket. It's when you cut a hole in your toast, and cook an egg over easy in it.
6. Moro Blood Orange are back in season and will be till mid-April. US Mineola Tangelos are also in season. I picked up a few at the produce today.

Daniel St. George sent us the Greatest Package Ever

It included two Moomin Lights.

Moomin with Thor
Moomin is pretty popular in Japan (They made an animation series in the 80s, and they have a few video games). They opened up a store in Tokyo which is where Daniel got all this stuff for us. For the past few years I've been really into Moomin. It's kind of the reason why I want to go to Finland. But I kind of been wanting to go to the Scandinavian region in general for a while.

Daniel sent us this photo of the storefront in Tokyo.

Moomin Stuff

Moomin Biscuits

Moomin Tin

Moomin Tote
Junior size tote.

Print Masks
He also sent Marci some masks for when she has to trim at work.

This package came a week after Brendan and Evah gave us Moomin Pillow Cases for Christmas.

Food Journal

Food Journal 15
Friday the 11th of December to Sunday the 20th of December
Uh, It was kind of a boring few days of eating.
Cactus Taqueria - It's across the street from Marci's bank so we went there twice before Marci had to go to work in the City.
Tim Tams - They now sell Tim Tams at Safeway. It's an Australia chocolate biscuit. You can perform a Tim Tam Slam with it.
Apple Jazz - I got it cause it's called "Apple Jazz". It kind of tastes like a Pink Lady to me.
Arinell's is the name of the Pizza Place I like.
Pork Loins Wrapped in Bacon with Mash And Brussels Sprouts. Marci made that for Movie Night (we watched Drag me to Hell).
La Bayou - I went and got a fried catfish burger at this Cajun place while Marci was looking lamp shades.

Food Journal 16
Monday the 21st of December to Wednesday the 30th of December
Mangoes - Mangoes were on sale. They're a $1.50 each at the Safeway and the come from Ecuador.
Chaat Cafe - This is the first time Marci and I went and got a real meal instead of just an appetizer and we were really pleased at what we got. We got Tandoori Chicken with Rice and Naan.
Arinell's - I took Marci there for the first time. She liked it but I think she'll stick to just one slice. We went there again cause she was coming home late and I told her I'd meet her at the BART station so we went there cause there was nothing to eat at home.
Christmas Dinner - We ate a lot of stuff: beef roast, lamb shank, crab, mash, spinach, root bake.
Thai Noodle - I went to BART to walk Marci home cause it was late (a little after midnight). Thai Noodle opens till 1 am so we tried that place out. It was also conveniently on the way home as well. It was pretty decent. I ordered crab fried rice for the first time and yeah.
Bon Apetite Magazine - Marci's sister left her magazine over from Christmas, so Marci made one of the recipes cause she's been craving ham. She made little ham biscuit sandwiches.

A friend asked me if I ever get bored with drawing the same stuff over and over again. But yeah. I kind of don't. It's like saying you get bored drawing the letter "D". Pretty much each day's entry is about 5 minutes of drawing, so it's not really a lot of work.
